CMMI – Maritec-X: Limassol Chamber connects students with the Sea

The Limassol Chamber visited Foley’s School in Limassol as part of the activities of the European project CMMI – Maritec-X, aiming to promote ocean literacy and raise awareness among young people about the importance of the marine environment and emerging opportunities within the blue economy.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to explore the marine world and deepen their understanding of key topics such as sea pollution, European Maritime Day (EMD) activities, the PROTEUS Buoy, and blue careers. The session introduced students to the challenges facing our oceans, while also highlighting innovation, research, and professional pathways connected to the maritime sector.

The presentation incorporated interactive learning methods designed to actively engage students. Through the use of VR goggles and real marine life specimens, participants experienced ocean science in an innovative and hands-on way, encouraging curiosity and strengthening their connection with the marine environment.

As part of the activity, surveys were also conducted to assess students’ level of ocean literacy. The initiative aimed not only to evaluate awareness but also to foster a sense of responsibility towards the protection and sustainable management of our seas for future generations.

The visit forms part of the broader efforts of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce & Industry as partner in the project CMMI – Maritec-X, to promote marine knowledge, sustainability, and youth engagement, contributing to a more informed and environmentally conscious society.
