Important development projects in Limassol were put on the table during a recent visit of the Minister of Transport, Communications & Works Alexis Vafeades at the offices of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Apart from the members of the Board of Directors of LCCI, present at the meeting were the Limassol members of the House Standing Committee on Transport, as well as the Mayors of the Limassol region, giving a clear message of the single, united voice of Limassol for the development needs of the city and district.
Welcoming the Minister, LCCI President Andreas Tsouloftas expressed Limassol's dissatisfaction with the fact that there is a long-standing difficulty regarding public sector development projects in the city and district of Limassol, adding that although there is, admittedly impressive development in the city, this is almost exclusively due to private sector actions.
The LCCI President put before the Minister a brief note with long-pending development projects of Limassol, including the northern bypass, the redevelopment of Agias Fylaxeos Avenue, the coupling of the coastal road with Franklin Roosevelt Avenue, Aktaia Odos. The Limassol Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) was also raised in connection with the ever-worsening traffic problem of Limassol, as well as the operation of the port, with traders-users protesting strongly against the continuous increases in charges.
Positions on all the items on the agenda were also made by MPs and mayors present at the meeting, with a common component of the expectation, and demand, of the state doing much more at the level of public works in the city and district.
On his part, the Minister said that he took note of what was mentioned and agreed on the need for a new meeting in due time, in the presence of technocrats, for further detailed discussion of all issues.
