The Limassol Tourism Board (ETAL) participates as a lead partner in the CYCLING ROUTES project: Souni, Zanakia, Kyvides, Sotira, Erimi, Episkopi, Agios Avrosios, Agios Therapon, Lofou and Vouni. The project is financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development within the framework of the Rural Development Program for the period 2014-2020. As part of the project, ETAL is organizing on October 17, 2023, in the village of Vouni, training for the local authorities of the area, representatives of the media and interested entrepreneurs, regarding the network of bicycle routes planned in the area.
The routes are accessible via internet where the information includes a map, description of the route, degree of difficulty, and other information useful for the cyclist. In addition, the routes will be marked and the appropriate equipment for parking and bicycle maintenance will be placed (inflator pump, tools, etc.). The aim of the training is to promote and spread the new cycling network in the specific communities and to use them to attract visitors to the area with the consequent benefit for the local economy.
The wider goal of the project is to highlight Cypriot landscapes and Cypriot nature, to upgrade the product offered in cycling tourism, to attract cycling tourism from Cyprus and abroad to the intervention area throughout the year, to introduce cyclists to communities of the countryside and the strengthening and involvement of rural micro-enterprises. Partners involved in the project are the Limassol Region Tourism Board, the Activate Cyprus company and the Limassol Cycling Club. The project is supported by the communities involved in the design of the network.
