The Kourion Municipality is moving ahead at a rapid pace with the process for the creation of an Industrial Area in the “Kokkinokampos” area, with direct access from the Limassol–Saittas motorway. The project aims to meet significant needs of the wider Limassol area, primarily for storage facilities.
As stated to “Entrepreneurial Limassol” by the Mayor of Kourion, Pantelis Georgiou, the Local Authority recently proceeded with written notification to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, informing it that all required studies for the project have been completed. At the same time, he noted that all necessary approvals from the relevant government departments have also been secured.
Through the relevant letter, the Kourion Municipality called on the Ministry to proceed to the next critical stage, that of expropriations, in order to make the implementation of the project possible.
Mr. Georgiou further stated that the Municipality recently received a letter from the Ministry, which included the expropriation lists that had already been prepared in 2022, when the process for the creation of the Industrial Area began. “At this stage,” he explained, “it will be examined how the expropriations are to be amended, and the Ministry will send a letter for updating to the Department of Lands and Surveys, so that new, updated lists can be issued.”
“God willing,” the Mayor of Kourion noted characteristically, following the approval of the expropriation lists, the relevant procedure will proceed on the part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, effectively giving the green light to the Local Authority for the commencement of the project. At the same time, he expressed hope and optimism that the construction works for the creation of the Industrial Zone could be tendered before the end of 2026.
Referring to the character of the new Industrial Zone, Mr. Georgiou explained that it is intended to accommodate storage facilities, small manufacturing units, as well as activities related to metal constructions using steel and aluminium, along with carpentry workshops. As he pointed out, the main objective is the creation of a legal and organised industrial zone in the area along the Limassol–Saittas road, so as to serve professionals who wish to operate close to the city, without however being located within the urban fabric.
Particular importance is also attached to the improved road access to the area. Given that the first phase of the Limassol–Saittas road has been completed, up to approximately the point where the entrance to the “Kokkinokampos” area is located, the new motorway now offers easy and rapid access to and from the city, serving the increased needs of the wider Limassol area.
The under-development Kokkinokampos Industrial Zone is expected to largely cover the significant and continuously growing need for storage spaces, while at the same time contributing to the decongestion of other areas and to the improvement of the city’s overall functionality.
Kokkinokampos is a neglected area, east of the Third Industrial Zone of Ypsonas, south of the former landfill site in Vati, and west of the Ypsonas - Polemidia livestock farming zone.
It is noted that, to date, there is no existing building development in the specific area, a fact that facilitates the planning and rational development of the new Industrial Zone.
