The official agreement for the usage license of the historic Pervolia Lighthouse at Cape Kiti was signed today between the Cyprus Ports Authority, the Municipality of Dromolaxia-Meneou, the Larnaka Regional Tourism Development and Promotion Company, and the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute.
The signing of the agreement marks the implementation of a strategic partnership that has been in development for some time and aims at the protection, promotion, and sustainable utilization of the lighthouse and its surrounding area. The shared vision of the involved stakeholders is to transform the site into a modern, accessible center with research, educational, and cultural purposes. The lighthouse will serve as a venue for scientific research and innovation activities, museum applications, environmental and cultural education, as well as cultural and tourism events that will contribute to strengthening local identity and sustainable tourism development.
As part of the agreement, the design and implementation of redevelopment and upgrade works for the site are planned. The lighthouse building will be renovated and suitably equipped to host modern interactive presentations, exhibitions, workshops, and research activities. Among other features, it will include technologies such as display screens, cameras, and sensors that will transmit real-time images from the local seabed, enhancing the visitor experience and understanding of the marine environment's significance.
At the same time, the outdoor area will be appropriately landscaped to host cultural events, educational visits, and ceremonies including civil weddings. As part of the overall upgrade, appropriate lighting and surveillance systems will be installed, and security will be ensured even during non-operating hours.
This initiative represents a significant step towards the enhancement of a unique landmark of the Municipality of Dromolaxia-Meneou, located in the Municipality of Pervolia, with high cultural and tourism value. Through the collaboration of stakeholders with complementary knowledge and capabilities, the goal is to create a model center that will foster innovation, sustainable tourism development, and the connection of the local community with its natural and cultural heritage.
