Limassol Mayor Nicos Nicolaides believes that within six months tenders will be announced for the construction of the Evagoras Lanitis Avenue Urban Project, the cost of which is expected to exceed €8 million, following a recent meeting with officials from the competent Ministries held by the Local Authority. As the director of the Limassol-Amathus Sewerage Board (SALA), Yiannis Tsouloftas, told "Entrepreneurial Limassol", the organization is preparing a complete and detailed design of a large culvert, which will be built at the same time as the road and will cost another €8 million.
He added that the design will be completed within October and SALA will deliver it to the Department of Public Works, which will be responsible for the construction of the entire project, which includes the road and the culvert. Yannis Tsouloftas indicated that the culvert will divert the entire river of Agia Fyla to Garyllis, putting a definitive end to the problem of flooding in Agia Fyla and the area of Tsirio Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works has told us that plans have been prepared for the road, which have been dispatched to the involved services and that apart from SALA, they expect data from some additional public utilities data on their own infrastructure that falls under the project. The construction plans for the road will be updated, considering factoring in the large rainwater culvert and facilities of the other services, so coordination of all stakeholders is required in order to finalize them.
The Public Works Department clarified that it is possible to issue tenders for the project by its competent branch, six months after the delivery of the plans by all services involved. It should be noted that the urban project of Evagoras Lanitis has been discussed for 15 years and that the aim was to coincide with the other major flood protection projects in greater Limassol.
The construction of Evagoras Lanitis Avenue will be the second measure in a row to address the problem of congestion in the area of Agia Fyla, after the installation of smart traffic lights at the homonymous junction.
