The Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry expresses displeasure at the backtracking regarding the construction of a new archaeological museum in Limassol after the change of government, its President, Andreas Tsouloftas, told "Entrepreneurial Limassol". As is well known, the Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafiadis, during a visit to the Municipality of Limassol, requested that discussions be started from the beginning on the site where the Museum will be built, pointing out the concerns about affecting the sensitive antiquities, in the scenario of its construction on embankment, on the sea.
The President of LCCI reminded that the former Minister Yannis Karousos had promised to build a museum worth €30 million, while he decided that the existing one cannot be upgraded. As well as that the Limassol Authorities, after examining various alternative cases, concluded that a good option would possibly be the embankment on the Coastal Road. Mr. Tsouloftas pointed out that several famous museums abroad have been built on embankments, stressing that the Limassol museum should not only be a place to store antiquities, but also a landmark building, imposing and an attraction of the city.
The president of LCCI had an informal meeting with the Minister of Transport, to whom a letter was sent by the Chamber, for an official meeting, which expressed the assessment that it will be set, in the next two to three weeks. Andreas Tsouloftas stated that it is understood that if another suitable space is proposed by the Ministry, it will be discussed, recalling the red line set by the Municipality of Limassol, that it be built within the municipal boundaries. The issue of the new Museum of Limassol was the subject of a recent meeting at LCCI with the city's members of Parliament, as well as with the Mayors, with everyone awaiting the decisions of the relevant Minister.
