The Limassol Municipality will soon proceed with a briefing/public hearing of citizens, stakeholders and investors on the provisions of the revised Limassol City Center Area Plan. This will be the first step of the local authority after the publication of the Area Plan by the Ministry of the Interior on January 13 this year, as Mayor Nicos Nicolaides told "Entrepreneurial Limassol". Mr. Nicolaides said the main concern of the Municipality now is for the state to proceed with the building of the necessary infrastructure, in order to promote the development of the Area, for which, as already known, there is huge investment interest.
The infrastructure concerns the adjacent the Coastal Road (known locally as Aktea Odos), the embankments that must be built, the removal of the existing boat repair workshops, but also the construction of public utility services. The Mayor indicated that if these projects are not promoted quickly, investment interest will fade away and that "it is not only a matter of Limassol but of the whole of Cyprus; [we are talking about] multi-billion euro by private investors and if the infrastructures are not in place, the whole thing will be put on a different footing".
The investments are mainly in the area between the old and new port of Limassol, where large construction developments are already at an advanced stage, or on the way. Mr. Nicolaides emphasized that the Municipality will do what it is responsible for, so that a new modern ‘’city’’ can be developed, within the city of Limassol. He was critical as to the delay on the part of the state, pointing out that the dialogue for moving the boat repair workshops has been going on for 15 years, without result.
‘’Entrepreneurial Limassol’’ has learnt that the Municipality has very recently approached the Ports Authority, regarding the possible movement of ship carpenters from the area of Aktaia in Limassol, to the port facilities under study in the Vassiliko-Zygi area. The local authority has proposed the creation of a wide waterfront along the coast in the area, to be used mainly by pedestrians and cyclists, while the construction of the new Archaeological Museum of Limassol on a sea embankment is also under consideration.
