The "die has been cast" and the abandoned, and dangerous, 14-story building of "Pieris Estate" on Omonia Avenue is headed full speed for demolition, after the Limassol Municipal Council activated the relevant procedures. "The Municipality of Limassol has decided, due to the indecision on the part of the building administrators, to proceed with the necessary studies for the demolition of the building and the effort is to do this as soon as possible," Mayor Nicos Nicolaides told "Entrepreneurial Limassol".
After many unsuccessful consultations with the liquidator, the Local authority decided and included €500.000 in the 2023 budget for 2023, an amount of half a million euros for the purpose of demolishing the building. After the demolition, the Municipality will proceed to recover the final cost that will be required for the demolition and management of the debris. According to the Municipal Engineer Antonis Charalambous, public bids will be announced for the demolition through a private sector surveyor, who will prepare a study for safe methods of demolition, but also for the management of the materials that result from the demolition.
The surveyor will also be selected through a bidding process, for which the terms are currently being prepared by the Municipality's services and tenders are expected to be announced around March. The liquidator of "Pieris Estate", Costas Frantzis, who was contacted by "Entrepreneurial Limassol", said that the decision of the Municipality to proceed with the demolition of the building was welcome.
He added, however, that he will seek to carry out the demolition himself, on the condition that he receives financing from the concerned Bank, since, as he told us, he has secured a cheaper offer, from that of the local authority. Mr. Frantzis noted, moreover, that from the moment the demolition is completed (one way or another), the plots in question will be sold in no time, in order to compensate the creditors of the company, which is under liquidation.
It should be noted that months ago a parapet collapsed from the 3rd floor of the 14-storey "Pieris" building, while there have been occasional complaints from neighbours that it has been occupied by homeless people and is filled with rodents.
