Monagroulli’s quest for growth: road projects essential

The construction of a road network in the Monagroulli industrial zone is still pending, but the Community hopes that the bids will be called soon, since the plans have been drawn up and the necessary financing has been included in the state budget. Community head Paraskevas Herakleous told "Entrepreneurial Limassol" that everything has been agreed with the Ministry of Industry and that he expects a new meeting soon, to determine when the tenders will be announced, to solve this long-drawn-out problem.

According to Mr. Herakleous, 14 industries operate in the area, some of which are expanding, but there are other interested parties who are discouraged by the complete inadequacy of the road network. He pointed out that the industries are highly helpful to Monagrroulli, in that they offer jobs to local residents and the community derives economic benefits. At the same time, to give impetus to tourism development, the Community Council seeks to create a road network further north of the Monagroulli beach, given that it has been designated a tourist zone.

"It is a rocky beach with many coves, for people who want to quietly enjoy the sea and nature," said Mr. Herakleous, emphasizing that the community does not wish to destroy the natural environment, nor to create beaches with umbrellas and facilities. He indicated that any construction will be further north of the road network so as not to affect the beach and that small hotels can be built in the area, which will not drastically change its image.

Regarding the dog beach near the Sewerage Board factory, Mr. Herakleous reminded that the Community Council had disagreed with this designation from the beginning. "We do not wish to change the natural beach there, to create access, because it can cause us problems", he added. Mr. Herakleous pointed out that Monagroulli is developing rapidly, with the construction of dozens of houses, a fact attributed to the fact that the land is cheaper. Problems that the Local Authority is trying to solve include pollution, on the one hand, from the livestock area that affects the northern side of the community, and, on the other, from asphalt producing units, the latter issue already being before parliament.
