Ypsonas Municipality – modern technology for a better quality of life

The Municipality of Ypsonas is utilizing the LoRa type data transfer system with which it has covered its entire territory, with the installation of sensors and meters that collect data in order to assist the daily life of the citizens. Mayor Pantelis Georgiou pointed out to ‘’Entrepreneurial Limassol’’ that Ysponas is the first Municipality in Limassol district to acquire this system.

The 3rd Primary School has already been covered with air quality sensors, which measure temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide concentration. As the Mayor told us, if during teaching hours the air quality is not satisfactory in the classrooms, the platform calls the Principal with an automated message to proceed with ventilation. And that this system can be combined with artificial ventilation, which will work by itself, when needed.

Three environmental stations will be installed that will measure nitrogen dioxide, dust particles in the atmosphere, humidity, precipitation, wind speed and solar radiation. These stations will function as a network and will provide information about the areas where they will be installed, since, as the Mayor pointed out, the conditions are different, e.g. in Ypsoupolis, the Municipality centre and the Industrial Area. A total of eight sound measuring sensors are being installed around the core of the Municipality, after the regeneration of which, food and drink and other entertainment-related businesses developments are flourishing, so that there is data on noise pollution and the impact on the quality of life.

The local authority is also proceeding with the automation of systems within Municipal buildings, to monitor electricity consumption, lighting, air quality, and even how many people are served in each Municipal Service. "In this way we will have a clear picture of the areas that require services to be upgraded ", Mr. Georgiou pointed out. Smart water meters will also be installed in all public buildings and parks, so that there is a daily record of consumption. The meters will also be connected to soil moisture sensors, watering when needed, and detercting any leak as soon as it occurs. The Mayor believes that with the use of technology, management costs and losses will be significantly reduced and significant savings will be realized.
