Pachna, a Limassol district community, is looking to the future with optimism, especially as it records an increasing trend in young families with children, who choose it for accommodation. Andreas Savva, head of the local Community Council, told ‘’Entrepreneurial Limassol’’, that this was partly due to the separation by the Cyprus Land Development Organization of 22 plots available for sale, at affordable prices.
As Mr. Savva told us, one family is preparing for settlement, a second house is in the final stage of construction and three families have started building their own houses. Some young people returned to Pachna and bought houses, while other young people who do not come from Pachna, have rented houses there, due to the cost of rents in Limassol city. Pachna nowadays has 800 inhabitants. It features two large wineries and three cheese factories. As the community head told us, 40 families are engaged in animal husbandry and every first Sunday of July the "Shepherd's Festival" is organized, which attracts thousands of people, particularly as Pachna's dairy products are famous. In the Community there are also several winegrowers who have their own celebration, every October 1st.
The Local Authority is keen on infrastructure that will help the development of the village, based on a plan prepared by the Urban Planning Department. The conversion of the Old School into a Community Library and Exhibition Space has been completed, which houses photographs of the occupied areas of Cyprus and the Green Line, as well as the old tools of the village. The Department of Public Works is in the process of announcing tenders for a new regional fire station in Pachna, with a budget of €700.000. Moreover, the creation of a multi-purpose Youth Center in an old school building is also underway. The project will be completed in three months and the management will be given to the young people, Mr. Savva said.
An important project for young families, which will be completed at the beginning of 2023, is a Nursery Station, while also planned is the regeneration of the Pachna core and the community leader estimates that the project will be ready to start before the end of 2023, in addition to the construction of a multi-purpose hall with a theatre and a playground. Pachna has a Medical Center that operates daily, and it is served by an ambulance, together with the other wine producing villages. A regional police station is located in the community, an ATM has been installed, while an important part of the former SPE (Cooperative Credit Society) building was granted to the Cyprus University of Technology for utilization, based on a relevant protocol.
