Underway €4 million projects in Limassol communities

Applications for funding for five projects in communities at a cost of around €4 million have recently been submitted by the Limassol Development Company through Measure 7, the Rural Development Program 2014-2020, which includes village redevelopment in rural areas. These include the redevelopment of the courtyard of the Cultural Center in the traditional core of Agios Tychonas, as well as the digital promotion of the cultural heritage and the ancient civilization of Amathus, through new technology equipment, at a cost of €490,280. 

It is proposed to create a Community Tourist Information Center In Silikou and a small excursion area with olives that will cost €584,029. The project includes actions to promote the agricultural heritage and olive cultivation. In the area there will be centuries-old olive trees, a botanical garden, a showroom for the promotion of olive products, an excursion area and a playground. It has also been proposed to redevelop the Square in front of the Monastery of the Holy Cross in Omodos,, with a budget of €871,289. The project is characterized as mature, since all permits and approvals have been secured. 

The works include the removal of up to 80% of the stones covering the square and the installation of a surface that is in line with the existing cobblestoned surface that exists in the village square.  As well as the construction of a paved sidewalk for the convenience of people with disabilities and easier access to the Monastery and modifications to the existing amphitheater in the central square.  Provision is also made for the construction of a rainwater drainage system and the expansion of the lighting of the square. 

The project with the highest cost concerns the configuration of the Community Parking Area and the Community Park in Louvaras, at a cost of €1,280,000.The project will also include a restaurant, outdoor corridors, an outdoor event space, a playground configuration, changing rooms and sanitary areas and an outdoor gym.  The whole intervention has been designed with materials that are consistent with the forest environment of the area. Finally, in Trachoni, it is proposed to pave roads, with a budget of €754,072.
