Coastal road - Franklin Roosevelt avenue connection - Will the Gordian knot be cut;

The Limassol Municipality of Limassol is trying to break the deadlock that has been holding stagnant for ten years now, the urban planning project of the connection of the Limassol coastal road with Franklin Roosevelt Avenue. What has kept the project blocked is the existence of professional estate that was erected without building permission on a Turkish Cypriot piece of land after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, and without a concession permit from the Guardian of Turkish Cypriot Properties, through which the new road will pass. Even though a few years ago another Turkish Cypriot piece was found for this estate to be moved, nothing much really happened.

A new impetus to the Municipality's efforts was given by the recent opinion of the Attorney General to the Ministry of Interior, according to which the payment of compensation to the businessman in question is not recommended, something that effectively ratifies an earlier court decree for the demolition of the building in question. The Mayor, Nicos Nicolaides is due to meet again shortly with the Interior Minister of Interior for a final resolution of the issue and the promotion of the Second Phase of the project as soon as possible.

At the same time, as the Municipality Town Clerk Christos Efstathiades stated to "Entrpreneurial Limassol", the expropriation of a second piece, next to the church of Agios Antonios, is being promoted next to the church of Agios Antonios, this time a Greek Cypriot one, housing a mechanic’s shop.

Although the Ministry of Interior was initially planning the start of construction work on the project in 2022, the delays observed in the demolition of the two buildings that stand in the way of the new route, as well as the update that is required in the construction plans, have now pushed the project to 2023.

Full steam ahead Evagoras Lanitis avenue
On the contrary, the construction of Evagoras Lanitis Avenue in Agia Fyla is on schedule, as the District Engineer of the Department of Public Works Thrasos Afamis told "Entrepreneurial Limassol", the goal set is to complete the construction plans by April and announce bids within 2022. The plans have also incorporated a large double rectangular culvert, via which a large volume of rainwater will be channeled to the riverbed of Garyllis.
