Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry visits Limassol

On Monday, 4 May, the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Michael Damianos, visited Limassol following an initiative by the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as part of his tour of the city. The Minister was accompanied by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary and other senior officials.

As part of the visit, tours were conducted at industrial facilities that are members of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where the Minister had the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the operations of the businesses, the challenges they face and their development prospects.

In the afternoon, a broad meeting was held at the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, attended by all relevant stakeholders from Limassol, including Mayors, the President and General Manager of the Limassol District Local Government Organisation (EOA Limassol), as well as Presidents and representatives of the Boards of Directors of industrial areas.

During the meeting, extensive discussions took place on matters concerning the operation and development of industrial areas, with particular emphasis on safety and space adequacy, rising energy costs, difficulties in finding human resources, licensing procedures and related delays, as well as issues relating to the installation and utilisation of photovoltaic systems and energy storage solutions.

Furthermore, the Minister participated in a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where an in-depth exchange of views took place on key issues affecting the development course of Limassol and the wider economy.

Among the main topics discussed were the promotion of the Technology Park, the government’s energy planning, and issues relating to photovoltaic systems in combination with energy storage solutions.

The Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry underlined the need for immediate and substantial interventions aimed at strengthening industrial competitiveness and creating conditions for sustainable development.

The Chamber expressed its satisfaction with the constructive discussion, as well as with the Minister’s commitment to continue the dialogue and promote solutions to the issues raised.
