The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), in collaboration with the Southampton Marine & Maritime Institute, the University of Southampton and Lorelei-X project, co-organised in Larnaka on 13-14 January 2026 a two-day course entitled "Autonomous futures: Drones for health, heritage, transport, science and security".
Through informal lectures and hands-on practical activities course participants, deriving from various professional backgrounds, were introduced into the world of autonomous operations.
The interdisciplinary nature of this two-day course introduced technologies and best practices in autonomous operations, illustrated by applications for health, heritage, transport, science and security where participants had the opportunity to gain skills in operational planning and data analysis techniques, as well as on current applications and future horizons of autonomous technology.
Course instructors included academics and researchers with expertise in autonomous vehicles on land, in the air and ocean with experience on applications of autonomous vehicles to logistics, healthcare, archaeology and ecology.
