Within the framework of the European project CMMI – MaRITeC-X, in which the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) participates as a partner, LCCI carried out a survey to record the level of knowledge related to ocean literacy.
A total of 454 students from primary and lower secondary education (gymnasia) in Limassol took part in the Limassol Chamber’s questionnaire. The aim was to determine their level of awareness of ocean literacy, the sources from which they obtain information about the sea and marine life, and the extent of their participation in related experiential activities.
For lower secondary school students, an additional question was included regarding "blue careers", in order to assess their level of familiarity and awareness, as well as the degree to which they are informed about the opportunities associated with them.
All results are presented in detail in the report “Ocean Literacy: Assessment of Primary and Lower Secondary Education in Limassol”, which is publicly available.
The CMMI – MaRITeC-X project is funded with €30 million, of which €15 million comes from the European Union and €15 million from the Republic of Cyprus, with the aim of developing new marine infrastructure and strengthening the blue economy in Cyprus.
