Bbf company, with the assistance of the Development Company of the District of Limassol (ANELEM) and the Troodos Development Company, has undertaken an initiative to draw up a general development plan for the wider area of the historic Berengaria Hotel in Prodromos, alongside its intensive actions in order to issue a building permit for the project as soon as possible.
The General Manager of bbf, Lefteris Constantinou, told "Entrepreneurial Limassol" that the "flag" for the region is not only Beregaria and Prodromos, but also the surrounding villages of Marathasa, which have their own beauty that should be highlighted and that is why this initiative was undertaken with ANELEM and ANET Troodos. The initiative is at an early stage and research is being carried out regarding the characteristics of each village, which are worth highlighting.
Lefteris Konstantinou added that depending on the characteristics of each community, they will be redeveloped, pointing out that unfortunately these days, they present an image of abandonment, with few residents, which are decreasing year by year. He emphasized that the effort is to revive the communities through the implementation of a wider masterplan, since the individual project of Berengaria in Prodromos, it is estimated that it will not be sustainable.
The bbf commissioned ANELEM and ANET Troodos to start the research and at the same time is in contact with the Communities and the Commissioner of Mountain Areas to whom the studies will be presented that will give directions on whether public buildings, old taps need to be restored, nature trails created , for the roads and pavements to be restored. Mr. Constantinou emphasized that if the plans are approved, either with own funds or with European funds where they can be secured, an effort will be made to give life and highlight the area, by creating a cluster of villages that will be connected to each other by some way.
With reference to the works in Berengaria, the General Manager of bbf told us that, in addition to the Urban Planning permit for the issuance of which the procedures are "running", a permit for necessary construction work has been issued, in order to prevent the collapse of the building that was on the verge of happening or noted in some sections. The permit provided for the repair of the stone built walls, as well as the repair of the internal frame, which was also damaged. These works have been completed.
The next stage that will start within March-April is the restoration of the roof, which must be removed and install a new, (with the same characteristics) since Berengaria is preserved. "We are waiting for the Town Planning permit to be issued so that we can then submit an application for Construction and proceed with the completion of the project", emphasized Mr. Konstantinou.
As is well known, the project concerning the revival and operation of the Berengaria hotel, the separation of land, the construction of houses and apartment buildings and the construction of a road, recently received the green light from the Department of the Environment under conditions. "We have worked with them for a very long time, the development has been in the Department of Environment for over a year" commented the General Manager of bbf. He finally emphasized that the area is beautiful and they do not wish to alter it in any way, but on the contrary their goal is to upgrade it and that is why they face the project with the utmost sensitivity towards the environment.
