The Limassol Tourism Board (ETAL) participates as a partner in the ANCIENT FLAVORS project. The project is financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development within the framework of the Rural Development Program for the period 2014-2020.
With the aim of highlighting the history as well as the value of the Commandaria, ETAL organized a conference aimed at professionals in the tourism and food industry on November 28, 2023. The conference was held at the NYX hotel and included an update on ETAL's work in the area of the Commander's Villages by President Mr. Toni Antoniou, reference to the Ancient Flavors project by the Director of the company Ms. Maria Stylianou Michailidou, presentation on 'Commandaria: Cultural Heritage of Cyprus' by Mr. Mimi Sophokleous, Director of Patticheio Municipal Museum - Historical Archive - Limassol Study Center, and a report on the Production Stages of Commandaria by Mr. Marcos Zambartas, Oenologist - Member Association of Winemakers of Cyprus.
In addition, as part of the project, ETAL is carrying out an online and radio campaign to promote Commandaria as an essential drink for the festive table. It also promotes to the Cypriot public recipes with Commandaria that will impress.
During the month of October, the Commandaria was promoted in themed events such as the Wine Festival in Agios Konstantinos (October 15) and the Oinofest in Lofou (October 20 to 22, 2023).
Through social networks, the 14 Commandaria villages are highlighted, namely Agios Mamas, Louvaras, Zoopigi, Agios Konstantinos, Doros, Monagri, Lania, Agios Georgios Sylikou, Sylikou, Apsiou, Gerasa, Kalo village, and Kapileio, their points of reference and the reasons for the traveller to visit them where he will get to know the production stages and the history of the Commandaria up close.
Partners in the Ancient Tastes project are the Limassol Tourism Board (ETAL), the Commandaria Producers Group, the Kapileiou community, the vine grower Antonis Antoniou and the tavern Avli tou Themistokles.
