The efforts of the Limassol Tourism Board to promote cycling tourism continue with a series of actions that include, among others, participation in the National Cycling Show in Birmingham (UK), June 17 & 18, 2023. The action took place within the framework of the project "CYCLE ROUTES: Souni, Zanakia, Kyvides, Sotira, Erimi, Episkopi, Agios Avrosios, Agios Therapon, Lofou and Vouni", which is financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development within the framework of the Rural Development Program for the period 2014-2020.
The National Cycling Show
attracts thousands of cyclists from across the UK and includes events,
speakers, product and service displays for all types of cyclists and all ages.
With a special focus on electric bicycles, the show featured 140 exhibitors,
with bicycles, electronic equipment for cyclists, accessories, nutritional
supplements, and other interests for the cycling public.
The Limassol Tourism Board participated with a stand at the exhibition where cycling
tourism was promoted and visitors were given informational material about
cycling opportunities in the Limassol district. The visitors of the exhibition took an interest at the
printed material with the cycling routes while they had the possibility to scan
with their mobile the
QR code and gain access
to all the cycling routes in every detail.
In conversations with English cyclists, information was given
on cycling routes in the city and countryside, the degree of difficulty, the
morphology of the terrain, the altitude as well as the ideal visiting period
for cycling tourism. The visitors of the exhibition knew Cyprus as a sun and
sea destination, while they had not thought in the past that it could be a
destination for their cycling excursions.
Our participation in the exhibition provided
the opportunity to promote Limassol as a cycling destination and subsequently
to be included as an option in the future cycling trips of those interested. Undoubtedly,
the whole experience was very constructive and contributes to the overall
effort of Limassol to upgrade and promote the area for cycling tourism.
