Managers in the hospitality sector continuously train their staff to provide excellent service, instilling a customer-centric mindset to help them understand HOW to deliver excellent service, or making sure employees are properly informed about the resources, services, and processes. However, we cannot instill a sense of loyalty in our organization by merely offering training or a nice work environment. We must discover ways to keep our employees motivated and give them a feeling of purpose in their job if we want to develop a devoted workforce. Organizations should concentrate on the following tactics to successfully energize their teams:
1. Team empowerment: Put aside your "positional influencing skills" and use your "human" while making decisions and solving problems. Encourage your team members to come up with solutions by including them whenever possible. Everyone understands that you are the "boss" and that your choice is final, but if you involve them in departmental decision-making, it won't hurt your title or "image." Keep in mind they are part of the operation; therefore, their opinions are essential to the department's success.
2. Teambuilding Workshops: We have conducted more than sixty team-building seminars over the last two years in various organizations, and some of them have made this a standard practice. The feedback we've had from these teambuilding exercises has shown that the participants weren't just driven; they were also able to regulate their rage. As an example, the collaboration between housekeeping and front office, which are sub departments under the rooms division department, was often improved by their affiliation with the main department. Through teambuilding workshops, you may strengthen your teams' relationships, foster a positive work environment, keep them energized.
3. Information-Communication: Be open and forthcoming when sharing updates and objectives with your team. Ensure that middle management communicates company choices in an ACCURATE CHANNEL. Most of the time, decisions made, new information provided, and adjustments made are not conveyed, and this undoubtedly undermines trust. Your people should be informed of every choice you make, every small modification, and any new information. And go above and beyond what your people anticipate from you by including all channels of communication to ensure that each employee receives a precise message in the manner that best suits them. (Email, corporate intranet platform, texting)
4. Attention to Detail: Concentrating too much on one's productivity will prevent you from "discovering" the person who does the extraordinary work. Working rapidly or ineffectively while multitasking will enervate rather than energize. Make sure your supervisors pay attention to the person who takes care of the detail, recognizing employees who perform exceptional work daily in addition to observing and focusing on how well a job is done. This will maintain your employees' energy levels and you'll gain devoted workers.
Other tactics, including ongoing training, bonuses, promotions, and employee career path from day one, will also keep your employees energized. Energized employees become productive, productive employees become motivated and motivated employees will develop a sense of loyalty towards their employer.
