Vouni: "The Spring of flowers and visitors"

Vouni is among the first communities to be certified as colourful villages in Cyprus, fulfilling the criteria set by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for aesthetic upgrading, cleanliness, limiting visual pollution, highlighting the cultural heritage, and improving the services and infrastructure that are offered. With these "weapons" in its quiver, the community has nowadays become a popular destination, especially during the weekends, the President of the Community Council, Mattheos Protopapas told "Entrepreneurial Limassol", expressing pride for the attractive and picturesque image of the village.

As Mr. Protopapas explained, when he took over the current Community Council, he started beautifying the community, rebuilding old stone walls, and maintaining the old colored front doors of the houses, with financial assistance from their owners. The Local Authority restored the cobbled streets, as well as other characteristic elements of the community's past and planted flowers from end to end, creating a very beautiful image.

At the same time, an effort was made, to revive cafes, restaurants and shops, a multitude of events were organized in order to promote the village and as the community President testifies, "now Vouni has reached an extremely good level and especially on Sundays, its center is literally flooded with people, reminiscing of the good old days with the tables outside on the cobblestones." As Mr. Protopapas told us, Vouni has five restaurants and 40 guest rooms. Deputy Minister of Tourism described the village's traditional cafe as the most "photographed" cafe in Cyprus. Other recreational areas are in the works, while the community has a scented candles workshop, a delicatessen and a winery.

There is a construction orgasm in Vouni, the President of the Community Council characteristically mentioned, as there are 10 construction crews working at the moment. The projects that the Community Council seeks to promote, are the upgrading of the Wine Center and the conversion of the old Primary School, which has been restored into a Boutique Conference Centre, a project for which funding approval is awaited. Among the attractions of Vouni are the two water tanks “havouzes”, that were built during the Venetian and Turkish periods and also the two ancient caves the village has.
