Promising Prospects for Cyprus - Indian Economic Cooperation

"The year 2022 marks anniversaries, 60 years since the establishment of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce & Industry, 75 years since the establishment of the independent Indian state and 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cyprus and India." These were mentioned, among others, by the President of the Chamber Andreas Tsouloftas in his opening remarks at an event entitled “Ways to expand India – Cyprus Trade and Investment Ties".

The event, which took place at the Chamber premises, was also greeted by the High Commissioner of India in Cyprus H.E. Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat while the presentation itself was undertaken by the second secretary of the Commission Nandulal Bhookya. In his address, the Chamber President referred to the traditionally very good relations of the Limassol Chamber with the Indian High Commission, as a result of which similar joint events had taken place in the past.

Describing India as one of the world's largest and fastest growing economies, Mr Tsouloftas praised the great Asian country's achievements in a number of areas, including high technology, both in terms of infrastructure and human resources, with Indian scientists excelling even way beyond the geographical boundaries of their country. "India has scored significant success even in space technology, being one of the few countries to reach Mars," he said.

Both the Chamber President and the Indian High Commissioner stressed the prospects for further development of bilateral economic relations, including at the business level, a goal that can be further promoted by the exchange of business missions, as soon as the pandemic-related conditions allow.
