The Ministry of Education is carrying out a radical reconstruction of the Second Technical School of Limassol, so that it can accept, on the one hand, more students and, on the other, in order to be renewed and modernized qualitatively and functionally, in line with the upgraded role it is called upon to play in the city center. Dr. Elias Markatzis, Director of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training at the Ministry of Education, told "Entrepreneurial Limassol" that the upgrade is carried out in conjunction with the relocation in the coming years of the 1st Technical School, to new buildings the Kato Polemidia municipality.
This development will make the 2nd Technical School, the only Vocational Education and Training school in the center of Limassol, Mr. Markatzis pointed out. Reconstruction work at the 2nd Technical School of Limassol, started in August, is being carried out in phases and include the demolition of part of it to construct a new building, while the rest will be upgraded. The timetable for the project, with a total cost of € 5.5 million is two and a half years, during which the school will continue to operate in prefabricated facilities and part of the existing building.
According to the Headmaster of the 2nd Technical School, Michalis Michailidis, with whom ‘’Entrepreneurial Limassol’’ has been in touch, work is progressing without a hitch and with the arrangements made, the school operates smoothly, without any negative effects on the learning process. The new compound that will be erected, will include a lecture hall with a capacity of more than 200 people, as well as new buildings for management and staff.
A new chemistry room, a library, two classrooms, a room for sewing with storage, two computer rooms and a basketball court will be constructed. Viewed as particularly important is the creation of a parking space for buses, something that does not exist today, with the result that students use the buses that serve the 1st Technical School and travel on foot, to and from their school. Furthermore, green spaces and parking lots will be created and the whole building will receive an anti-seismic upgrade.
