Limassol Old Port

The Old Limassol Port was constructed in the 1950s, during the period of British rule, and initially operated as a port for barges, serving Cyprus’s cargo and passenger traffic. Following the construction of the New Limassol Port in 1973 and changes in the shipping industry, its operations were significantly reduced, and in 1979 it ceased to be used for commercial shipping activities. Subsequently, it primarily served fishing boats and pleasure craft.

Following a planning process and an architectural competition, the area was redeveloped between 2010 and 2014 by the Cyprus Ports Authority, with the aim of reconnecting the city with the sea and transforming the site into a cultural, commercial and recreational destination.

Today, the Old Limassol Port is an important historical and public space in Limassol, combining the city’s maritime heritage with modern uses and activities.
