OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO, which will be held on April 10, is celebrating its 10th year of existence. Having started as a small event with only 70 runners, it has over the years developed into Cyprus’ leading sports event, with this year’s participants expected to reach 13.000 from 50 different countries. OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO is the official Marathon of Cyprus and is accredited with the world marathons federation AIMS.
‘’Our vision is for OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO to consolidate itself as one of the best known sports in Europe, in addition to establishing and Limassol and Cyprus as an international sports tourism destination’’, according to Andreas Spyrou, Operations Development Manager of the Marathon. ‘’Our tools in that direction are three elements that provide the OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO with comparative advantage: the flat terrain of all routes, the incomparable beauty of the Limassol sea front where the Marathon takes place and the perfect weather conditions’’.
OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO is also in position to offer all runners, and especially those from abroad, all it takes for a truly unique Marathon experience. ‘’Our objective is for all runners to be able to enjoy what our island has to offer’’, Mr. Spyrou added.
The whole event comprises six different races: Marathon, Half Marathon, Petrolina 10Km Energy Race, 5Km City Race, PrimeTel 5Km Corporate Race, McDonald’s 1Km Kids Race. All races will take place in traffic-free roads and will be in full compliance with international standards.
The most of OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO events is the PrimeTel 5Km Corporate Race, where over 200 companies and organizations are competing in a unique of its corporate bonding event. Just like last year, this particularly race is in for a sold out.
