Limassol Tourism Development Company Participates in the 3rd HERIT ADAPT Meeting in Patras

The Limassol Tourism Development & Promotion Company Ltd participated in the 3rd Technical Meeting and the 3rd Session of the Steering Committee for the HERIT ADAPT project of the Interreg Euro-MED Program, as well as in the inaugural conference held on October 17, 2024, in the Region of Western Greece, in Patras.

HERIT ADAPT aims to find solutions, using technology, to make tourism more sustainable and to make cultural heritage monuments more resilient and protected from the effects of climate change. The project's conference took place on October 17, 2024, with the presence of the Deputy Minister of Climate Change and Civil Protection of Greece, Mr. Christos Triantopoulos, and the Governor of Western Greece, Mr. Nektarios Farmakis. The event offered an opportunity to discuss the connection between cultural heritage monument preservation, climate change, and sustainability in tourism.

The conference also included political figures and entrepreneurs involved in decision-making centers to ensure the policies needed for sustainable tourism development and environmental and cultural heritage protection are implemented.

During the Technical Meeting, the progress of the work packages was presented in detail, and the necessary steps for the effective and smooth implementation of the project were highlighted. Additionally, project partners discussed key actions including:

· Mapping existing technological tools for destination management and monitoring in terms of sustainability and resilience.
· Feasibility Study of the Sustainable Tourism Model.
· Improvement of existing and recently developed tools and solutions for managing risks related to tourism and climate change, aiming to reduce negative impacts and increase resilience in      targeted areas.
· Pilot testing of the HERIT ADAPT sustainable tourism model and customized solutions.
· Enhancing Tourism Sustainability through HERIT ADAPT.
· Monitoring the environmental footprint of the project.

The partnership that participated in the conference, the Technical Meeting, and the 3rd Session of the Steering Committee includes:

The HERIT ADAPT project is co-financed at 80% by the European Union, with a total budget of €2,998,740.00.
