The Global Shipping Community celebrated on 25 June, the “Day of the Seafarer”, which was set by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in 2011.
In view of this day, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), in collaboration with its Members including the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, has launched a Seafarers Recruitment Campaign Film under the title “An Adventurous Spirit”, with the aim to encourage people to consider a career at sea, by speaking openly about the benefits, challenges, and importance of seafarers.
The Film shows the interesting life of Seafarers, who through their work, play a vital role in transferring all the necessary goods, food, fuel and other commodities across the world with the hope to inspire more people to consider joining the industry.
Education and awareness have always been high on the agenda of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber understanding from day one that investing in the people is the key to maintain a flourishing Industry. As such, in addition to global Shipping industry’s efforts, to raise public awareness, on a local level towards this effort, the Chamber has been executing successfully for twenty years now various educational activities, providing information to the public and especially youngsters in Cyprus about the employment opportunities that exist in the wider Shipping sector including a career at sea.
