The first phase of Franklin Roosevelt and Agias Filaxeos is completed

Despite the small problems that have arisen, the two major public works in Limassol are underway to improve the road connecting Franklin Roosevelt Avenue to the Limassol promenade road and the widening and improvement of Agias Filaxeos street.

Burial after the archaeological findings

Regarding the first project, on March 16 at the stage of the construction works at the northern section of Agias Theklas street antiquities were discovered. Officers from the Department of Antiquities, because of the significance of the findings, judged that the reconstruction work could be done in a length of approximately 30 meters.
Furthermore, work on the utilities and sidewalks in this section are carried out normally by manual digging, while the contractor, An. Christou Properties and Constructions Ltd, performs both tasks in the remaining part of Agias Theklas street, having also been active in other sections (rectangular sewer at Syntagma Square, double rectangular sewer at Garylli River).
The excavations by the Department of Antiquities extend to a depth of 2 meters, and are expected to determine soon the appropriate method of burial of the archaeological finds.
In May the first phase of the work of Franklin Roosevelt connection to the promenade road with the road surfacing of Agias Theklas street is expected to be completed, as the final road surfacing will take place after the end for the entire project.
The project, which began on January 30, 2017, at a cost of € 2.52 million, is due for completion in the summer of 2018.

A phase every four months

The first phase of the project for the enlargement and improvement of Agias Filaxeos street in Limassol is expected to be completed in early May.
As provided by the contract signed between the Department of Public Works and Kyriacos Hadjikyriakos & Sons Ltd, the construction will be carried out in four stages.

Work of the first phase on the west side of Agias Filaxeos street, starting from the junction of Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue to the Lukoil gas station, commenced on January 2, 2017.
It can be noted that the work related to the asphalt based pavement have been completed, while the contractor is working on the installation of new services on the pavements and reconstruction of the passage of King George Avenue.
The second phase of the project will start at the station and will be extended to the northern end of the project Stelios Kyriakides street.
Based on the schedule, each phase should be completed in approximately four months each, while the project is expected to be completed in April 2018.
The project, which costs €2.8 million, concerns the enlargement and improvement of the existing two way road of 850-meter lanes to four lanes separated by an elevated islet, sidewalks and lay-bys.
Additionally, it includes reconstruction of the overall length of every street of 460 meters.
The improvement works include construction of drainage system, underground installations of utilities and communications support, installation of street lighting, reconstruction of water supply system, irrigation system installation of roadside green space and other related work.

According to the Department of Public Works, all measures for access to the various premises and shops in both directions of the road are taken to minimize the inconvenience for citizens.
