RE:SOURCE 2.0: Art for the Environment

Giant pink bubblegum with birds stuck in it, delicate flowers crafted from glass, a memory quilt fashioned from old posters, a dress made from plastic straws - these art pieces, among many others, were witnessed by visitors in June 2023 at the environmental art exhibition RE:SOURCE. The event, held in Limassol at The Warehouse by ITQuarter, right by the seaside, attracted over 2500 visitors in two days. The works of 25 artists from Cyprus and beyond shed light on environmental issues and the importance of conservation.

The idea of the exhibition and its implementation belong to the non-profit charity organization City Friends Club in collaboration with the ARTNOW curatorial team. Their goal was to raise awareness about environmental issues through art. Together, they inspired artists to create works that helped change things in people's lives and in their communities.

Following its success, they're back with RE:SOURCE 2.0 from May 17 to May 21, 2024. The first RE:SOURCE exhibition was dedicated to implementing the principles of 5R into people's lives: Recycle, Reuse, Reduce, Repurpose, Refuse. This year, the focus shifts to the very essence of our existence: NATURE. The exhibition will explore the symbiotic relationship between humans and the natural world, emphasizing the vital resources it provides. Through art, RE:SOURCE 2024 aims to spark dialogue and action towards environmental protection and sustainability in Cyprus.

Anticipation for the event is high, with top local and international artists preparing to unveil their works alongside sustainable fashion pieces. Moreover, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in workshops, fostering creativity and engagement with environmental themes. The event will span five days and remain accessible to all, free of charge.

In February, RE:SOURCE 2.0 issued an open call for artists worldwide, inviting them to submit works that delve into nature's beauty and the human connection to it, whether through sculpture, installation, painting, or spatial objects. The response was overwhelming, with over 100 applications pouring in, promising a diverse and thought-provoking showcase of artistic talent and environmental consciousness. Don't miss your chance to be part of this transformative event, where art and environmental advocacy converge in a powerful display of creativity and commitment.
