Chris Joannou Ltd: Importing Big Brands

In 1957, the company Chris Joannou Ltd was established in Cyprus by Chris Joannou. Born in Limassol, Chris Joannou was a representative of big foreign brands.    

In the early 60’s, he started importing and supplying raw materials such as milk powder, vegetable fats and oils for the ice cream, bakery biscuit, chocolate and other similar industries operating locally in Cyprus. 

During the mid 70’s, after the 1974 invasion, the activities on raw materials for the snack and beer industries expanded to almost all Middle East countries, including Greece and the Balkans. 

Other supermarket products were also introduced in the Cyprus market, such as cheese, margarine, vegetables as well as detergents and other cleaning materials.

Also in the early 70’s, the distribution of machinery and equipment for the ice cream industry started and enlarged this field by the late 70’s by adding machinery and equipment for bakeries, confectioneries, hotels, restaurants, bars,  etc.

Apart from its headquarters at 51, Stygos street in the Agia Phyla Area, in Limassol, the company now has new modern stores, of European standards and HACCP approved. It also has a new storage space of 3000 sq.m., located at Paramytha Industrial Area in Limassol.  

The company imports and distributes its products in all areas of Cyprus and has its own sales and delivery team. 

In 2001, the company turned from a family owned one, to a public one, as its shares floated on the Cyprus Stock Exchange under the name of Chris Joannou Public Ltd.
