A forgotten oasis in Agios Athanasios industrial area, is heading for 'rebirth'

The Agios Athanasios Municipality and Medochemie aspire to create the largest park of the greater Limassol after the Municipal Garden. It will span over an area of 30 thousand square meters, at a cost of € 2,000,000, which will be undertaken by the pharmaceutical industry, including the project in its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility program. The effort started on the initiative of Mayor Marinos Kyriacou, an agreement was reached with the pharmaceutical industry (the park will be named after its founder, Dr. Andreas Pittas) and is going ahead in collaboration with the local Industrialists’ Association and the Ministry of Industry.

"This is a beautiful space, which no one sees and does not know it even exists," the Agios Athanasios Mayor told "Entrepreneurial Limassol", adding that its revamping will, among others, alleviate the acute problem of lack of parking spaces in the industrial area. He pointed out that part of the space is already used de facto, for daily parking, by 100 cars. Reciting the way things developed, Mr. Kyriacou  said when he first saw the place, he thought that unless something was done, this small forest area would remain, neglected and forgotten. So, he approached Medochemie, which immediately adopted the proposal, so that on the one hand citizens and workers enjoy the green oasis and on the other hand, well-structured parking spaces can be created, to cater to the of some 300 cars.

The project has been promoted over the past two years, but it does of course have to go through the "cogs of the bureaucracy". As the Mayor told us, as per the Environment Department requirements, a study has been prepared by the industry with Medochemie, which is currently awaiting the green light for the project to get under way, as all the other pending issues have been settled. The Mayor stressed that the design is excellent and that it includes additional tree planting, facilities such as benches, pedestrian and bicycle lanes, as well as low energy consumption lighting.
