Pambos Zorbas – Palodia at the heart of important public and private sector projects

The significant population increase in Palodia in recent decades has highlighted the need to create new infrastructures that serve the local people, at a time when the community is trying to redefine its identity and role in the context of the reform of local government. Community Council President Pambos Zorbas is positive about the prospect of evolution, in due course, of the cluster of communities of the region (Palodia, Paramytha, Spitali, Apsiou and Gerasa together with Fasoula), pointing out, however that mistakes that occurred during a similar venture in Greece should be avoided in Cyprus.

Community projects
Mr Zorbas told "Entrepreneurial Limassol", that studies will proceed for the construction of the community's water system, a project that will start to be implemented in 2023. Palodia will be served through three new exits from the new Limassol-Saittas motorway, which, as he said, will be completed in parallel with the main project.

In the making is the construction of the road that will connect the community with the Limassol-Fasoula road, which will contribute significantly to minimizing the traffic problem facing Agia Phylaxis today.  This Is an urban project that combines road, pedestrian street, bike path and green lane, but as Pambos Zorbas pointed out "it does not go at the pace we would like".

"We are moving forward," he added, "with the creation of a theme park of agricultural activities in Alonia, next to the building of the community council, but also with the creation of the central square of the community, in place of the stadium of the old primary school". For both projects, the Limassol Development Company (ANELEM) was entrusted with finding a study coordinator. The old primary school itself will be transformed into a multi-function community centre. At the same time, the Community Council promotes the restoration of two important buildings: the house of Nikos Evagorou with its conversion into a museum for the hero, and the traditional olive mill, next to the church.

Private sector projects
"We are very pleased with the expansion of the “EOKA Melathro” said Mr. Zorpas, "which has put the [Palodia] community on the map of health service centers in Cyprus".

There is, he added, an interest in the creation of a university in Palodia, east of the Limassol - Saittas motorway, opposite the Heritage school. It is a complex development located in an amphitheatrical valley of 243 thousand sq.m. The project, which has been under preparation for years, recently changed owner, passed into the hands of a Russian investor and plans have been submitted to the Town Planning for the preliminary work. A planning permission application for the creation of a road network has also been filed, by a Russian school, which will also be built on the Limassol-Platres road.
