New era for Prodromos - Berengaria and more

There is optimism for the revitalization of the mountainous Marathasa area, thanks not just to the revival of the historic "Veregaria" hotel, but to the revamping of another abandoned hotel in Prodromos, according to Neophytos Neophytou, head of the Prodromos Community Council. Regarding "Veregaria", Mr. Neophytou told "Entrpreneurial Limassol" that restoration work has begun on the exterior of the building and the owner, "Prime Property Group", who is extremely keen on that effort effort, is waiting for approvals from the Urban Planning Department, to proceed with the development stage of the project.

As Mr. Neophytou explained, this will not be a hotel proper like before, but apartments and housing units will be created, to be available for sale and rent, while all the facilities of a luxury hotel will be provided. At the same time, he continued, a double-digit number of individuals from abroad have either bought houses in the community and renovated them, or bought land and built luxury holiday homes. However, Prodromos also expects the revamping of another abandoned hotel, "Alps", which belongs to the community and is intended to be transformed into a place for hosting high performance track and field athletes, from Cyprus and abroad.

Mr. Neophytou told us that for this project, which is promoted by the Community, the Cyprus Sports Organization, the Amateur Athletic Association of Cyprus and the Commissioner for Mountain Communities, a study has been prepared and he expressed the hope that implementation will begin in 2022. He added that the goal was for the scheme to be financed European funds and €1,5 million has been secured for this purpose.

Cyprus Sports Organization (CSO) President Andreas Michaelides told us that the facilities for the preparation of the athletes will be created outside the Forest College, an area made available by the Ministry of Agriculture, whereas the hotel building will be used for the accommodation of the athletes. Mr. Michaelides added that the project is under study, meetings have been held and the CSO will contribute, if the effort bears fruit
