Participation in the Limassol Chamber Business
Barometer (Spring 2021) was completed in May with great interest on the part of
the member companies.
While the processing of the findings is in
progress, and due to be completed shortly, a fairly clear picture is already
emerging, which emits potentially positive messages. In particular, it is
becoming increasingly evident that the very depressing picture that was
pervasive six months earlier (Autumn 2020) due to the pandemic and its effects,
has begun to recede, as most businesses are now facing the future, if nothing
else, with a cautious optimism.
This optimism is evident in the answers to most
of the questions of the Barometer, with the one on employment being a case in
point. Asked if they intend to employ new staff, in the autumn a large majority
had given a negative answer, whereas now a majority (albeit marginal) answer
positively. It should be noted, however, that pre-pandemic levels, whether in
terms of employment or other areas, have certainly not been reached. So what
can be safely said is that things are just improving, although they are still
far from levels that could be described as satisfactory.
The complete version of the Chamber Barometer,
including of sectoral analysis and relevant will be posted on the Chamber's
website within the current month.
