The transformation of the Kyperounta Hospital into a Troodos Regional Hospital is well under way. The works for the construction of the new building, which will house the Pneumonology and Pulmonary Tuberculosis Clinic and the extension of the Department of Accidents and Emergencies, are in full swing. The coming year, 2020, will be a milestone as the two projects, totaling 6 million €6,8 million, will be completed.
The Troodos Hospital will undertake the regional oversight and coordination of all health structures in the Troodos region, aiming to increase the efficiency of the services provided. The Pneumonology and Pulmonary Tuberculosis Clinic, which will have 16 beds, will be a clinical model and a reference hospital for patients from abroad, due to the climatic conditions of the area. After, the hospital started as a sanatorium during British rule, precisely because the climatic conditions of the area were seen as favorable for the rehabilitation of those suffering from tuberculosis.
Kyperounta community council president George Panayiotou expressed satisfaction at the beginning of the work, which was a long-standing expectation of the local people. Speaking to Entrepreneurial Limassol, Mr. Panagiotou noted that "upgrading the hospital and turning it into a Troodos regional hospital will improve the health services provided to the 20.000 inhabitants of the area, in addition to creating new jobs".
An amount of € 300,000, he indicated, will be given for the upgrading of the outpatient facilities, and after the completion of the work in progress, rooms will be upgraded, in order, amongst other things, that each ward will have separate bathrooms and lavatory facilities. As it is known, the foundation stone of the two projects was laid last May by the President of the Republic, who announced, at the same time, the invitation for a technical study to upgrade the areas surrounding the hospital.
