Limassol’s North Bypass - pressures for partial construction

The construction of the northern bypass of Limassol in their areas as soon as possible, is high on the agenda of all Limassol municipalities, all the more so as the traffic congestion problem becomes increasingly difficult to cope with. For the section from Vounaros area in Ypsonas to Nikaias Avenue, according Ypsonas Mayror Pantelis Georgiou, the goal is for the local Municipality to announce bids for an environmental study at the beginning of 2022 and then for the development of construction plans.

As far as the Nikaia-Giannou Kranidioti section is concerned, the construction plans are being prepared by the Public Works Department, and, as the Kato Polemidia Mayor told ‘’Entrepreneurial Limassol’’, it was found that the road affects houses, so the designers were instructed to move it slightly in some places. Nikos Anastasiou stressed that this section is vitally important because it will serve the movement to and from the Veregaria development pole.

"We want the section up to the 100th road to be built as a priority, but unfortunately this has the highest cost because it passes over Garyllis (river) and two large bridges must be built", Mr. Anastasiou pointed out. The Public Works Department is also in the process of preparing construction plans for Evagora Laniti, which is part of the northern bypass in Limassol Municipality.

According to Mayor Nikos Nikolaidis, as soon as the construction plans are prepared, bids will be announced for the project. However, Public Works says that there is still some way to go, until plans are in place. For the section east of April 1, there are problems with altitude differences, but the Limassol Municipality requested that the Transport Ministry begin its planning, so for the North Bypass, in both Limassol and Mesa Geitonia municipalities to be completed as soon as possible.

A positive development was noted regarding the section of the road between the Germasogeia and Agios Athanasios Municipalities. According to Germasogeia Mayor, Kyriakos Xydias, the Town Planning Department undertook to update the master plans and pave the way for construction, while the Transport Minister expressed his intention to promote construction as a matter of priority.
