Limassol Projects – A race to meet timetables

The coronavirus pandemic will delays public works in Limassol for weeks or even months. However, the relevant authorities confirm that arrangements will be made in order to minimize the consequences. The Limassol Municipality is trying to minimize the effects of the temporary suspension of the construction sites for the co-financed projects:
• revamping of Missiaouli and Kavazoglou street, with a timetable for completion in July 2021, as well as the restoration of municipal apartment buildings in the same area
• creation of a green walkway and the general improvement works in the Agios Antonios area, due for completion in June
• expansion of the Garyllis Linear Park, scheduled to be completed in May 2021 and
• creation of a Centre for the Elderly, with a timetable for completion in June 2021

Progressing normally
Towards the end of summer, a call for the first environment-friendly neighborhood is expected, in the area of Omonia, a project that will be implemented with municipality funds, which are already guaranteed. In July, once normality is restored, the upgraded Municipal Market is expected to open. The completion of the Dierona–Arakapas road, a project that resumed in early May after a month and a half of interruption, is postponed from September 2021 to the beginning of 2022. In July, with a short delay, Makarios Avenue in Ypsonas will be delivered, while the construction of road islets on Nikos Pattichis Avenue are guaranteed and for the Elias Kannaouros road a call is expected at the end of May.

Works in the "air"
The regeneration of the core of Agia Fyla, which was suspended in 2013, appears to be affected by the crisis for a second time. A call for this town planning project was expected to be announced in May, but it is now frozen because of the adjustments in the state budget due to the coronavirus. The same applies to the redevelopment of the core of Ypsonas, a project that is now also pending, awaiting the release of funds by the Ministry of Finance. The same applies to the Germasogeia bypass road even after the case with the Tender Review Authority closed. This is also the case with Phase A1 of the Saittas road from Polemidia to Palodeia, a project that is still blocked by the Review Authority.

Stadium, Golf Course, Casino
The construction of the new Limassol stadium in Kolossi, gradually restarted after a two-month halt, with the completion timetable for the summer of 2022 remaining unchanged. Also, there is indication that timetables for the completion of the multi-thematic Casino resort in Zakaki, have in any way been derailed and completion is still expected in December 2021. The project is in the process of construction (the main building is located on the second floor). Moreover, the construction of the Limassol  Greens  Golf  Resort in Fasouri is planned to begin by the end of the summer.
