Limassol Chamber Business Barometer, Spring 2019: Positive messages,...and some worries

Positive messages continue to emerge from Limassol enterprises in vital areas such as employment and investment, according to the findings of the latest Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry Barometer (Spring 2019).

Over 59% of Barometer participants said they will employ new staff in the coming month, 63% were Happy with their investments and another 63% said they will proceed with new investments. Less encouraging, however, is the picture with regard to upcoming sales forecasts. Indeed, 30% say they expect such to increase but six months later the corresponding proportion was 37%. Of more concern are the figures relating to confidence in the economic outlook of Cyprus. Only 17% their confidence has increased, as opposed to 21% who say the opposite.

As for problems facing Limassol entrepreneurship, it is clear that businesses are not exactly happy with government departments. Aside from that, general issues of competitiveness and the ongoing lack of skilled labour pose major concerns. As for factors that could pose risk for entrepreneurship the major concern is still the possibility of further banking crisis.
