Church to build affordable student residences in Limassol

More than 200 affordable student residences will be built in the Tsirion Area of Limassol, on land opposite the St. Arsenios church, according to Archbishop Chrysostomos. The decision was announced during a recent joint press conference of the Archbishop and Education Minister Costas Habiaouris and is in response to a genuine need, as students just cannot afford to pay the high rents that are quite prevalent nowadays, especially in Limassol. The land belongs to the Church of Cyprus and will host several blocks of flats (some 200 apartments in total) which students will be able at low cost. The apartments will have all necessary ancillary facilities and will be rented out to students for no more than 200 euro a month.

The Church is said to be very keen on this project and Archbishop Chrysostomos kindly requested the civil engineer to be in charge of the construction to be constantly in attach with the architects currently working on the designs, so that the moment all preparatory work is done, construction gets under way immediately. ‘’I wish we could had started yesterday’’, the Archbishop said, adding that no effort should be spared for construction to be completed within the year 2020. Sources close to the project told ‘’Entrepreneurial Limassol’’ a preliminary plan for the area's road network has already been submitted to Limassol Municipality.
